Easily select Components or Versions from multiple Jira projects in a single custom field.

🚀 Start

Let’s start with creating a new custom field.

1. Navigate to Jira Settings > Work Item settings > Go to fields

Click "Create new field" and search for:

Acrossing Versions

Select the Field Configuration scheme you want to asssociate
Click “…” on the Actions and select “Add field to screen”, choose the create/edit/view screen preferable.
Click “…” on the Actions and select “Contexts and default values”.

Click “Edit custom field config”.

Add the custom field to your Jira project
Click Configure (gear icon) on the field
Set your preferences:

🔍 Search Scope	`All Projects` or `Specific Projects`
📁 Selected Projects	(if scope = Specific) choose which projects
🔢 Multiple Selection	✅ Allow / ❌ Single only
🏷️ Display Format	Show project name/key with brackets or arrows

Click Save Configuration

Before testing, feel free to create the versions and components in any projects, it’s better to setup versions and components in different projects to test the crossing search feature.

1. Go to Space(Project) settings.

Create versions or components for the select project:

✏️ Using the Field (Issue View)

Creating/editing an issue → dropdown to search items(Components or versions crossing projects)
Type to search across all selected projects, for example, in the following screenshot, we can find the versions in NEW and SRC projects.
Pick one or more items depending on configuration
Submit – values are saved to the issue

👀 Viewing Values

Selected items appear with:

[Value] Project Name

Note in the screenshot, two components are set, one is from ITSM project, the other one is from NEW project.

💡 Tips

🔁 Reuse same field across multiple projects – scope applies globally
🧹 Removing a project from scope won't delete existing field values
🔍 Search is dynamic – finds items by name across all allowed projects
